Perinatal Medication Management

There is a shortage of perinatal psychiatrists, contributing to the current crisis at hand. The demand has exploded and the majority of women do not receive treatment. For the ones who do, the quality of care may be lacking the support and infrastructure to truly be able to intervene- there isn’t enough specialized training, negative referral cycles, lack of qualified resources, insurance reimbursement is a major problem, and geographical barriers.

Medication Management can be an option to manage mental health symptomatology during TTC, pregnancy, and postpartum when working with a healthcare provider who is qualified, well-informed, available, and is able to provide options to patients with answered questions. (Did we also mention compassionate?) You should not have to feel alone in this process, and as therapists, we do often partner with a professional who can prescribe.
